UPM Strengthens Academic Expertise in Media Writing

Serdang, 14 October — The Centre for Corporate Strategy and Relations (PSPK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), organised the 2025 Specialist Article Writing Workshop for Media at Dewan Putra, Centre for Co-curriculum and Student Development, UPM.

This second edition of the workshop aimed to provide UPM staff with exposure and skills in writing specialist articles suitable for publication in both mainstream and digital media.

The programme, held from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., was attended by academic staff as well as management and professional officers interested in strengthening their communication abilities based on their areas of expertise.

The writing session was facilitated by Mr Nazmi Yaakub, News Editor of Berita Harian, who shared techniques on producing concise, factual, and reader-friendly specialist articles.

In addition, the workshop featured an “Inspirations in Specialist Writing” session delivered by UPM Vice-Chancellor, YBhg. Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah, who emphasised the importance of popular scholarly writing as a medium to enhance the university’s reputation through the dissemination of knowledge that benefits society.

Through this initiative, PSPK aims to assist UPM academics in broadening the reach of their expertise via mass media, while strengthening their ability to engage with journalists in a professional and effective manner.
