SERDANG, 28 August 2025 – The Centre for Corporate Strategy and Relations (PSPK), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), enlivened the Independence Month celebration by showcasing unique decorations themed around recycling, made entirely from paper and cardboard materials.

The decorations, creatively crafted by PSPK staff, highlight various elements of Malaysian art and culture. Among them are dioramas of the nation’s iconic landmarks such as PNB 118, the Petronas Twin Towers, the Kuala Lumpur Tower, and a map of Malaysia. Also featured are cultural heritage collages inspired by traditional arts like Kuda Kepang and Wayang Kulit, made from used cardboard and repurposed batik fabric. To further enhance the festive spirit, a Malaysian-themed photobooth was set up, while a mural portraying the Prime Minister, national icons, and traditional dances was creatively assembled using recycled bunting.

PSPK Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dahlia Zawawi, said the initiative reflects that the celebration of independence is not only observed with patriotic enthusiasm but also embraced through sustainable practices. “These decorations send a clear message that patriotism can be expressed through creativity while educating the campus community to adopt the 3R culture – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” she said.
This initiative also underscores PSPK’s commitment to supporting UPM’s sustainability agenda and aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting environmental awareness and nurturing a spirit of national pride.
