The eagerly awaited school holiday season is just around the corner. The cheerful faces and excited shouts of children enjoying their break are already envisioned. Parents are equally excited to plan activities for their children and take the opportunity to go on family vacations.

For families living in rural areas, this time might be used to visit relatives in the city and vice versa. However, amid the ongoing food security crisis, the community is advised to plan cautiously to avoid excess and ensure sufficiency.

Additionally, safety factors should be considered. Places that do not guarantee family safety should be avoided. When planning the journey to the chosen destination, ensure that the driver gets adequate rest and that the route has plenty of facilities for breaks.

Let us not end 2023 with tears and sorrow due to our own negligence. We have seen many heart-wrenching tragedies reported in the newspapers. Regret beforehand is income, but regret afterward is useless.

Nevertheless, this school holiday is also an opportunity for parents to deepen their children's character after being away while we work. Various activities can be done while being with them at home. Doing household chores or exploring other activities like basic farming at home can significantly help parents understand their children's character.

Nowadays, teenagers are exposed to distracting gadgets. The ever-challenging and easily accessible internet worsens this situation. Unhealthy influences can easily affect children's thinking and actions. As the elders say, learning should be guided by a teacher, so any misunderstandings can be referred to experts who provide the proper understanding.

Moreover, visiting close relatives also significantly benefits children's development. It exposes them to the importance of family bonds, teaches manners, and allows for exchanging views on various matters. If children are not taught the importance of family bonds, there is a concern that this generation will be swept away by the tide of technology.
